Old Republic : Rise of the Hutts Splat O Ween 20

Background:

The Hutt Cartel has moved into Galactic space seizing control of the planet Makeb. The planet  is a mid-rim planet and has a primary source for the mineral Isotope 5 - one of the rarest materials in the galaxy.  Originally known for the rich oceans, the planet has changed dramatically with the mining operations and areas of barren wasteland now cover areas that were once rich forests. 

Makeb had not originally been known to the Galactic senate. The planet had originally been under control of a part of the galaxy controlled by Mandalore. The settlers of this planet sought to remain neutral, neither bowing to Mandalore or the Galactic Senate. 

During this time, the planet was invaded by the Hutt Cartel following the First Galactic War.  The plant would become a haven for scum and villany. Both Republic and Brotherhood of Darkness forces raced to Makeb with their own agenda. The Republic sought to evacuate and liberate many of the former citizens and force the Hutts out following the planet's ecological destruction from the over-mining of isotope-5. 

However, the Brotherhood of Darkness, an arm of the Sith Empire, continued to seek commerce with the Hutts from the mining operations on Makeb, but by doing so polluted the atmosphere and caused devastating ground tremors and aftershocks that were believed to render the planet unstable. The Sith Empire would continue harvesting isotope-5 with the Hutt Cartel. 

Pockets of resistance remain in the few forests that remain on the planet. Some settlers initially  refused the Galactic Senate aide, but ultimately would send a call for help to regain their homeworld. Talos City, the capital of Makeb remained, on the surface a neutral local, with remaining shipping ports having access to both Mandalorian and Galactic Senate shipping lanes. Production of the Isotope - 5 continues, but now with the Hutts overseeing the operations with Sith lords as their guardians, siphoning product offworld under the guise of peaceful trade.. The profits from the sales siphon funds from one dynasty to another, all the while strengthening the Hutt position as the galaxy's lead crime syndicate, and the Sith as a looming threat to peace. .
